Elementary, My Dear

This throwback is supposed to be about elementary school crushes. However, I cannot for the life of me remember any of those elementary boys names so instead I am going to talk about a crush that I do remember having in elementary school, and really, still do to this day. My main man, Johnny Depp. Yes, the one and only. He stole my heart in Edward Scissorhands and has had it ever since.

That movie, Edward Scissorhands, came out in 1990. I was eight, very impressionable and fell in love with him from the minute I saw his pale face and "scissor" hands. What pre-tween (haha) little girl could resist those dark, dreamy eyes and that bad boy persona with a sensitive side. Swoon.

What's so interesting is that I have been crushing on this same man since then. I get that he is a bit quirky but he really is like a fine wine that gets better with age. I cannot tell you how many movies I have seen just because he starred in them. My favorites. Well, first and foremost would have to be Edward Scissorhands, the movie that started it all. I also have a fondness for Finding Neverland. Such a beautiful movie and so different in the fact that he plays almost a normal character in it as opposed to the eccentric ones we are used to seeing him in.

It blows my mind that he just turned 50 this month. Yes, 50! That's OK. 50 is the new 30 in movie star years, right? I mean, hello George Clooney, Tom Cruise, and Brad Pitt. Why is it that men get better looking with age and women, well, that's another post entirely.

  1. I've never claimed to crush on Johnny Depp as a person--although I love his acting and do watch movies just because he's in them. (Lone Ranger, anyone?) But I was extremely fond of Captain Jack Sparrow for many years of my life.

  2. One of my biggest crushes from childhood is Dennis Quaid - specifically from the movie The Parent Trap. So who am I to judge a crush on a 50 year old? Dennis Quaid turns 60 soon. Stopping by from Life of Bon, have a great day :)

  5. 1. I clicked on your link because of your name. I'm sorry but I love it. I've never seen it with two L's at the end. Do you say it different from mine? Maybe you get this all the time and I'm sorry. I'm just so dang curious.
    2. Johnny Depp is genius, beautiful, charming...I fell in love during Pirates of the Caribbean because, you know, I wasn't allowed to watch Edward Scissorhands. I feel like I missed out on a decade of love.
    3. Love your name and the blog. I'll be returning!
