I guess the most obvious answer would be mother. That's who I am and really what defines me the most. I haven't been doing it long (my son is only 13 months) but holy cow it really is all encompassing. Almost every decision is based around what would be best for Brandon.
Having a child really puts your entire life in perspective. Your thinking changes. Really, everything changes. At least at first. My weekends went from going out at night to kid's birthday parties during the day. Late nights are when I am still up after 10pm. Going to a movie means getting a babysitter first.
Everything is planned now, for the most part. It's much more difficult to decide to do something last minute as it takes at minimum, 30 minutes to get baby dressed, bags packed, and into the car.
It may seem like us parents give up a lot. Freedom to do what you want when you want. Honestly though, I am more fulfilled in who I am now then I ever was before.

I'm going to have my first at the end of August so am loving this post!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. So exciting and seriously the best thing ever!!!
Deletehi Rachell [love the way you spell your name] i would say that being a mother is the best thing ever to do =)
ReplyDeletehaha. Thanks. It's a blessing in disguise. Good thing is I have never met anyone else that has it spelled like that. Bad thing is everyone misspells my name. Isn't so bad now but growing up I hated it.
DeleteOh I hear ya on going anywhere takes so much more time. It almost makes me anxious just reading it! And yes, yes, yes. We give up a lot for the babies but get so much back in return! And I think I was over most of the things I gave up anyway. At least that's a good way to think. ;)
ReplyDeleteI was the same thing about being over most of it. I was almost 30 when Brandon was born so I felt like I needed to grow up anyways. LOL
DeleteSo very true! I have a 14 month old and another one coming in June and I can't imagine what life is going to turn into. It has given my life more meaning than I could imagine though! Great post!
