It's a Nice Night for a Fire

Excuse the terribly grainy photos but this was a first for my little man. We did our first fire pit fire of the fall last week and started it off right with some S'mores. I can honestly say that it's probably been at least 10 years, maybe more, since I have had a legit over the fire made S'more. Not sure why I waited so long but man oh man how I love me some S'mores. I think I've eaten one almost every night since.

Brandon is now obsessed with marshmallows over the fire. We let him roast his own (with very close adult supervision) and he just thinks it's the coolest thing since sliced bread.

I'm not sure if there is a better way to end a day then to sit by the fire with good friends and family, drink a beer and have a S'more. Mmmm Mmmm Good!

Sweet Season Farms

Helene in Between Blogtober

Since today is supposed to be about childhood I thought I would post something that I hope Brandon will remember as he gets older. And also hope that he remembers enjoying.

This was our second visit to Sweet Season Farms and certainly won't be out last. You can check out last year's post HERE. I am going to let the photos do most of the talking. It was a blast but it was also Hot as Hades out. Next year we will wait until the last weekend to do this so its not so busy or hot. They did add a bunch of new stuff this year and I tried to get photos of most of it.

Check out that spiral he is throwing. My little southpaw!

Brandon's Aunt Hollie and Cousin Gavin. She had a much better way of doing this than I did.

Brandon's Favorite Activity while at the farm.

They waited over an hour for Sno Cones!!!
Monkey Face!

I am hoping to do this each year but maybe visit a different farm to get a different experience.

October = Fishing and Festivals

Oh October, how much I love thee. My favorite month of the year weather wise. The gulf waters are still warm enough to swim in and the humidity is about half of what it is during the summer and temps are still in the 80's. And it's football season so there's that as well. haha

My October weekends are usually jam packed with fun stuff and this year looks to be no exception. If you are looking for a quick getaway weekend somewhere then I would highly recommend the Destin/Ft Walton area during this time. Lots to do and see without it being jam packed with tourists like in the Summer. Below are some of my favorite activities that usually happen in October.

This is a free event that always falls during the first weekend in October and helps kick off the Destin Fishing Rodeo. It spans the entire Destin Harbor and offers plenty of activities for all ages. This is the 35th year of the Seafood Festival. My first visit to the seafood festival was in high school as our cheerleading squad put on a performance during the event. It has continued to grow each year and doesn't look to be slowing down any.

This is the 66th year of the fishing rodeo and it lasts the entire month of October. One of my favorite things to do is walk down to the weigh ins and watch all of the fish being brought in and weighed. They have categories for just about anything including Shark Saturdays; my favorite category by far. It's always exciting to keep track of who is in the lead and is just as fun to go out and try to catch a big one yourself. I mean, any chance to win some money is good with me.

The fish; not the hair. Get your Mullet any way you like it during this festival. Fried, Grilled, Blackened, on a stick, whatever Usually held the 3rd weekend in October in Niceville, the Mullet Festival is like a mini fair with rides, arts and crafts tents and good food. Plus, watch some pretty good entertainers on the main stage. This year's headliners' include Dusin Lynch, Martina McBride, and Neal McCoy. If you like country music then this is where its at.

We did this for the first time last year and will definitely be doing this again. I loved everything about going up to the country in Milton and walking around corn fields and sunflower fields, taking hay rides, eating sweet corn and playing games. You can easily spend an entire day here and enjoy every minute. I'm so excited to go back this year since Brandon is a little older and will be able to do more. Especially looking forward to bouncing on the corn popper and possibly taking a ride around the sunflower speedway!

What activities are you looking forward to during October?

Pumpkin Patch

Warning: Picture Overload!!!

We visited the pumpkin patch in Niceville over the weekend and were able to get some AMAZING pictures of Brandon. He had an absolute blast and the weather could not have been nicer.

This is my absolute favorite time of the year. It is still pretty warm but without all the humidity. I hope we can keep this for awhile so we can do more outdoor things with Brandon over the coming weeks and months.
