What's Missing?

I miss the carefreeness (don't think that's a word but going with it) of being a kid. Ya know, before life really starts kicking you in the ass. When you biggest worry is having to get home before dark or studying for your spelling test at the end of the week. How strange is it that we spend most of our childhood trying to grow up so quickly and then we grow up and get all of these responsibilities and wish we were a kid again.

I have a book that chronicles my schools age years and I was thumbing through it when I realized that every year I wanted to be something else when I grew up...a teacher, veterinarian, doctor, actress, lawyer, singer, etc. (Vet was in there for a few years until I realized I would have to euthanize animals then that was a no-go). Not once did I put that I wanted to sell real estate when I grew up. I don't think that is something most kids aspire to; to sell.

Then again, I did a lot of selling growing up. I sold candy and fireworks for cheerleading, had bake sales and raffles for softball, stood out front a Walmart asking for our team to go to Nationals. Yep, I really put myself out there. However, my entire livelihood did not depend on me selling something to support myself and my family. Now, it does. My how much easier life what as a kid.

  1. I also miss being carefree. I can so relate to this. Life surely has a weird way of turning out.
