5 Months Old

Oh boy,

My how you have changed in the past month.  I am starting to notice that you are losing that infant look in your face and it kinda makes me sad to know that you are growing up so fast.  I am not quite sure how big you are right now since we don't go back to the doctor until next month but I could guess you are probably at or over 20 pounds now.  You are currently wearing a size 3 diaper and 9-12 month clothes.

Speaking of getting bigger, we have had to retire the bouncer, swing, and your infant car seat.  I really thought these would last longer but you just grew too fast for your own good.  Not having the swing has changed how you go to bed.  Before, if you were being fussy we could always put you in the swing and you would fall asleep that way.  Now, it's a little different.  I usually sing and rock you a bit and then lay you down in your crib when you start to settle down.  I now don't even try to lay you on your back because you will immediately flip over to your tummy.

Why we had to retire the swing.
This month has been a month of MILESTONES for you.  It is like all of a sudden you are tired of being stationary and you are figuring out how to get yourself around.  Just this month you have learned to sit on your own which is BIG.  You now prefer to be sitting up when playing but you haven't quite figured out how to safely get back to laying down yet.  You will just lay yourself back so either myself or the boppy has to be behind you to make sure you don't whack your head on the ground (I learned this the hard way because I moved for just a moment and down you went. Mommy FAIL moment.)

Sitting and playing
You also have figured out that you can roll from your tummy to you back and then back to tummy to get around.  Unfortunately, you can only go one way right now so if you end up next to something you get really mad that you can't keep going.

You still are not really a fan of tummy time which is odd because you will now only sleep on your stomach.  However, you are now strong enough to get on your hands and knees and start rocking back and forth.  It is only a matter of time until you start crawling.  You can scoot backwards but you haven't figured out how to go forward yet.
Trying to get around
You have also started to stand up while holding on to things by yourself.  You get so brave when you do this and you start reaching out for things and then let go of whatever you are holding onto completely.  I have to make sure that I am ready when you do this because you just aren't stable enough to stand up without your hands on something yet.

My how you have become a talker lately.  You talk the most in the morning and when you are getting changed.  You are starting to make all new sounds which is really exciting.  You have also learned to squeal when you get really happy which makes me laugh every time.  What gets you the most vocal is Sampson.  You are constantly trying to reach out to him and when he and daddy plays you just laugh and laugh.

How we do bath time.
It seems that you learning something new each and everyday.  I can only imagine what this next month will bring.

Love,
Mommy
