Prepared Birthing Class...Week 1

Yesterday was a very eventful afternoon/evening.  Had a doctor's appointment at 3:45pm.  Only gained 3 lbs from last month (yippee) and I am still measuring big (which isn't surprising since I have measured big since the 3 month mark).  Everyone keeps saying he is just going to be a big baby.  Good news...my blood tests came back great.  Bad news...my glucose levels were slightly elevated so now I have to do the 3 hour glucose test tomorrow (UGH).  Also, because LabCorp doesn't know how to read a prescription I have to get blood drawn AGAIN becuase they forgot to run the antibodies test the last time I was there.  Luckily, I am RH+ so Dr. Hennessey says really nothing to worry about but they have to do the tests anyways.  With regards to the glucose test, Doc says it looks like I will pass but becuase my numbers were slightly elevated he wants to be 100% sure that I am all good, especially since gestational diabetes runs in my family.

On to the fun part.  So, Nick and I had our first "Prepared Birthing Class" last night.  Needless to say, very interesting.  There are a total of 7 couples there with due dates ranging from end of February to end of April.  Nick and I sat next to a couple that is from Ethiopia.  The husband won a lottery over there for a Visa to America 15 years ago.  Pretty interesting story.

So the class starts and we all have to introduce ourselves and say if we are "Mom" or "Coach."  Honestly, I think is was pretty obvious that all the women were "Mom" but whatever.  The class instructor, Mim, hands our some booklets and we go through them.  She then asks if anyone in the class has and cravings for nonfood items such as clay, starch or dirt.  I cannot help but to start laughing...I mean if someone is having those cravings do you think they are really going to admit it to a bunch of people they have never met before.  She then goes on the say that there is a dirt farm or something in DeFuniak Springs that people visit to eat dirt.  I lost it.  Only in DeFuniak!!!

I will be surprised if Nick and I don't get kicked out of the class before the last week.  For the most part I am trying to take this serious becuase I do believe that at some point we are going to get some information that will be useful come labor time.

Stay tuned for next week's class update...we will actually be doing some floor exercises with breathing and coaching techniques.  Should be interesting.
